Stopped in this little place called Dahlonega (it's where North GA. University and 5th Ranger Training Battalion are) and you wanna talk twisties- this place has got-em!! The whole town is perched within mountain tops between 3200-4000ft, and I couldn't find a straight longer than 1/4 mile even in city limits. Goy outta town and was flicking the bike left and right on new blacktop EVERYWHERE. I haven't ridden like this in a while, so all the banking mixed with some pretty drastic ups and downs got a little vertigo after the first hour, but after stopping for coffee I was good to go. I even found a bike shop at the edge of town with 2 VFR's on consignment! They have a '96 750, and a '10 1200, both with low miles. I thought they were a bit proud of both of them, but the bikes were mint and we are talking about being in a small town up in the mountains...

I reported into Benning here in Columbus on Thursday, and I'll have more time to look around here after the next couple of weeks. If there's anyone in the area here hit me up!

    Dude,

I'd love to ride with you. I'm in the middle of Atlanta and if need be you can ride your horse over and stay at my place. There is another service guy who lives in Atlantic station (about ten minutes from me) ,K9maniac. Also Zoomy is about ten minutes in the other direction. Holla when you get a minute. John (he lives in Woodstock 30 miles north) and Zoomy and I ride a good bit together when we can. Thanks for your service

I can also help you get rid of whatever chicken strip reminents you may have on your tires. I will warn you that I ride a "brisk" pace and occasionally pass on double yellow when warranted. Wheelies are optional.

Dahlonega is awesome. We used to ride up there all the time from Atlanta when I was in college for camping and riding. There is even a motorcycle hotel up in the hills as well as some local motorcycle shops which are all really cool. If you plan to spend the weekend up there and want to go camping look for Lake Winfield Scott. It is AWESOME...

    Greasemonkey,

A great place to ride a little closer to Ft. Benning is Pine Mtn. It's no north GA but a nice short ride. Just follow hwy 27 north out of Columbus about 25 miles and turn right on 190. Great road! I'm originally from that area and used to ride there alot. Just watch out for the park rangers on the weekends. They have radar.

    WHY????WHY???
I wait around on Thursday's for you nuckle heads to call and the phone never rings, I go out on Saturdays just HOPE of seeing another VFR to hook up with.
I ride in circles just in case someone looking for me wouldn't miss me.....and then you all decide to wait until I take my once every three years vacation to go riding!!! WTF??

J/k - I'm out next weekend but would love to ride any other. We have a pretty sweet group of people (namely myself) that like to ride so let us know when you want to break out the bike.

Dunno... Where is Barber (in hrs) or where in the mountains? I arrive at my new unit either late wed or early thur, so I'll know for sure what my available time for the weekend will be before fri afternoon. Unless they pull the whole "fuck the new guy" thing by sticking me on 24 hr duty this weekend I'm good.
