Autocom America | Specialist Communications Top Gear has been the U.S. distributor for Autocom for many years, but when I recently visited their web site I noticed that they're offering unbelievable close-out prices on Autocom systems, and those prices keep dropping. However, Top Gear's web site offers no explanation as to why they're closing out their inventory of Autocom gear. So, today I called them to ask what's up with this, and I was told that they, Top Gear (not to be confused with First Gear) will soon no longer be the U.S. distributor for Autocom, and therefore Top Gear is in the process of selling off their inventory, hence the very low prices. I was also told that there would eventually be a new U.S. distributor, and that new products from Autocom are in the works, such as a wireless hub system, but no further details were given. Of course, I inquired as to why Top Gear has decided to no longer distribute Autocom in the U.S., and I was told only that there were "many factors". Most likely, one of those factors is that lately Top Gear wasn't selling enough Autocom gear to make it worth their while, since until now it's been fairly pricey, and many motorcyclists may not even be aware that such products exist in the first place. I've been using Autocom's Super Pro AVi kit for several years, along with a Kenwood FreeTalk XL radio for bike-to-bike communications, and I'm a big fan of Autocom's. My voice-activated Super Pro AVi allows me to effortlessly talk with a passenger, as well to clearly hear from my Zumo GPS and Escort 8500X radar/laser detector. For those who are so inclined, you can also plug in your i-Pod, etc. At any rate, I'm just passing along a head's up here-- If you've previously wanted an Autocom rig but were put off by the prices, and you're still interested, Top Gear is offering unbelievable close-out deals. For example, I paid over $600.00 for the Super Pro AVi kit alone, but the current price has dropped to $200.00. Since Top Gear appears to be in an all out 'everything must go' mode with the selling off their Autocom inventory, you might well be able to negotiate even better deals over the phone.
The helmet kits look like they haven't come down, still $85 for a kit. But that is a good price for the main module.
