If I want to use my cell phone to record the bike, where would the sweet spot for placement of the microphone be while riding the bike? I suspect that being on the bike I will capture the cam gear wonderfully but the exhaust note will be weak since I sit ahead of the exhaust. Is the best recording made by having a bystander record the bike as I go by? So many technical people here, I suspect someone will have well-developed thoughts about this :congratulatory:

The best place to record will depend what you want to capture. Exhaust is best captured by strapping the recorder to the passenger seat. A mic in a tank bag or a camera on the gas tank will get a lot of cam gears. A mic in your helmet will capture both along with wind noise.
