OMG! When did this happen and why wasn't the entire SLO BBQ crew invited?? Sounds like a honest review of what might be a great bike. Of course without actually riding one my judgement is reserved... You should have had the Honda truck show up at the BBQ for a "real" test ride.

I thought I was supposed to keep it a secret so I didn't let it out at the BBQ knowing it would be all over the site in minutes. I met some great guys from VFRD and other sites. We had a great time and they treated us real nice. The worst part about the whole thing is that we weren't really allowed to ride the bikes. We rode them like they were made of glass and let's face it, that's not the way to ride a VFR.

I wonder if that would be up my alley given the distances I put on. But I still think it looks ucking fugley. Admittedly, I have not seen this in person, only in pix

glad you were able to partially "taste" the new vfr. i was at first disappointed when the new 1200 graced magazine covers but after seeing it in the flesh last december '09, my opinion changed. the pictures do not justify how it looks.

Good writeup..It's too bad they didn't let you REALLY test drive it.

Randy, you are exactly who I thought of when I was riding this bike. I think this bike was made specifically for you. You need to get to a dealer and check one out personally. Especially a white one. I have a feeling.

my sentiments exactly. I tried to keep my whining down in the article, but it's friggen hard to answer the interview questions about how the bike handles if you are not allowed to push it a bit. Maybe (yeah right) they'll re-invite me to something and let me really try this bike. Unfortunately I am not a magazine editor, just a lowly internet nerd who loves riding. Until I breach into the "big leagues" I will not be allowed to test the bikes the way they really deserve.

True. I know it has been said over and over again, but you are correct. I had to think about the bike and the ride for several hours before I started typing. I didn't want my positive experience with the guys from Honda to color my opinion of the bike. I hope it came through in the article. I like the bike, but I'm not in love with it. It's a LOT of money. I think they did a fine job and I think it will sell. Probably more in Europe than here, but I predict a strong following. Mark my words, there will be a lot of new users to VFRWorld, and they are gonna like their VFR just as much as you like yours.

You wrote a very well rounded review but no review is complete without a good flogging of the bike. Honda should have let you ride it like a VFR deserves to be ridden.

Who knows, maybe some magazine saw what you wrote and they're writing up a contract for you to write for them. :thumb: Can you tell us when this test ride was?

I rode the bike yesterday and you read the review today. That's the beauty of vfrworld and the internet in general. Maybe next time they'll let me really give it a go...

    Excellent article Reg!
Keep this behavior up and I have no doubt that the job offers will start rolling in. Then you really could ride the bike as they were meant to be ridden, but would you be able to write from your heart like you can now? One wonders?

I've looked pretty hard at the new bike and sat on a few but nobody offered me any keys for some reason. Perhaps my credit score wasn't quite where they wanted it or their insurance wasn't. Dealers up here expect you to buy first and test later, a pretty big leap of faith when the sticker is 20g's plus Provincial and GST tax. The bike does look really nice in the flesh though!

    You lucky b$#@^%&!

Thanks for sharing with the group!

Reg, thank you for an informative ride review. I hope this gives haters WHO HAVEN'T RIDDEN THE BIKE pause. I would like to ride one myself.

For what its worth, Randy, I was one of those guys that felt the same way. Fugly. Until I saw one in person, and while the can is still ugly to me, my opinion changed drastically on its looks.

Thanks for the write up, Reg.

I heard that Reg is now going to become an unabashed shill for the VFR 1200 and is willing to say the DN-01 is his favorite bike, as soon as that job with Sport Rider comes through like they promised.
