Around here in Salt Lake City it seems like there are a lot of slightly used race tires up for sell. Some very cheap. Now my question is do you guys think these things are safe to put on your bike for road use. $20 for a set is very temping.

    NO!

Not a good idea. Race tires are truly designed for the "track" not the street.

Without a long explanation, track tires need to be run at a spirited pace to warm up prperly and provide grip needed. Street speeds rarely acheive the pace needed to heat them up. In addition, race tires wear our quickly due to the heat cycles they go through.

    Not a good idea Nate.

    tires work on heat cycles.
tires only work when at the correct temp, and can pnly go through so mny cycles.

race tires are good for maybe 1-4 cycles and need to get very hot(thats why you see them with heaters on them in the pits)

road tires can take more cycles and don't need to get as warm.
