I just picked up my first VF750F The carbs are in terrible condition. I want to get them rebuilt but can't afford to be without the bike while they are being done. I have to go to school and work and the only way to get there on time in the traffic is with a bike.My question is this...Will any v45 750 carb set work as a temporary replacement? The plan is to buy some from Flea Bay and put them on while I rebuild the others then take it in to get them synched.

yes but use 750 to 750, and 700 to 700. if you go 750 to 700 the bike will run lean. from magna to sabre to intercptor is just the difference between jet sizes by one or two. it won't run sweet but it will run.

as far as synching your carbs they need to be attached to the bike for that. I would schedule an afternoon appt with your mechanic- if he's worth his salt you should be done in a hour, hour and a half tops. I think though you should be looking for the complete rebuild of the carbs. you will swear that your riding a whole new motorcycle once they are on.

The plan was to put the others on and ride it. They local guy is expensive...Said something like 10 hours to rebuild I have the knowledge to rebuild them myself just not to synch them. So I will rebuild them and install them then take it to him to synch. Like you said he should be able to do it fairly quickly. Thanks for the advice.

I've always used Clif Koch's carb cleaning instructions on my V4's.

    They are here: http://users.rcn.com/kochc/moto/carb/carb.html

They apply to all of the 1980's V4's. One of the real keys I have found to doing my carbs is to soak the bodies in Berryman's and then blast every passage with B-12 Chemtool and then compressed air to make sure the passages are clean.

If you can rebuild carbs then you have more than enough skill to synch carbs. your manual, a screw driver, and a carb stick (you can use some automotive vaccum guages if you have them). I recommend the carb stick because most common ones can sych four carbs at once. when you adjust one carb all the others will change with that one adjustment, so it's easier when you can see all four at a glance...
