Apologies ahead of time if this has been covered. I'm considering purchasing an Oregon registered 07 VFR but I live in California. Are all 2007 VFR's 50 state bikes or were there 49 state bikes and special, slow, heavy choked down versions for California?

    Thanks in advance.

All 6 gens are California compliant, untill you throw some money and a good wrench at them.

Yes but be careful, California has some crazy rules aboot oot of state vehicles. The big one is it must be two years old from date of sale for on highway vehicles.

Hmmm...... I hadn't heard that one. I only knew about the 7500 mile thing. Or, is that just for the bike to be considered a "used" vehicle?

TC, I think the only requirement, for registering out-of-state motorcycles in

Kalifornia, is that it must have at least 7,500 miles on the odometer.

It's a stupid rule that was carried over from the days when Kalifornia use to

tack on an additional $300 for out-of-state car registration.

"Importing Motorcycles from Other States by California Residents

Individuals are prohibited from importing, purchasing, or leasing a new vehicle from another state, unless the vehicle was manufactured for sale in California, and the EPA label certifies the vehicle has California smog equipment. California considers a new vehicle to be any vehicle with less than 7,500 miles on the odometer AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE.

In other words, in order to prevent California residents from buying a new motorcycle in another state or country and then importing it into California thereby bypassing the more expensive and stricter emissions (read lower performance models) required by California, the state says you must have at least have 7,500 miles on the bike to bring it in.

The 7,500 mile requirement is ONLY for vehicles that don't meet the California emissions requirements. There is no 7,500 mile minimum requirement for motorcycles that have a manufacturer’s sticker indicating that they comply with California standards. A lot of the newer motorcycles are 50-state models so check this first."

    So, where's the sticker?

Buying this bike might actually work. I've asked the seller in Oregon to find the emissions sticker and take a picture for me. Do any of you experts know where the emission sticker is on a 2007 so I can help him find it? I guess it's a black, "matrix" style sticker.

I think there is a sticker under the seat attached to the

frame, but I am not 100 percent sure. Maybe someone here can tell us.

I know the answer now...It's under the front of the tank on the airbox housing.

I believe all the 2000 to present VFR's meet the 50 state requirement. I'm certain all the 6th gens, '02-'09 do. I bought an '03 600rr in Oregon that was a 49 state model, with 7300 on the odometer. I had to ride that for 200 miles, ah, "out of state", before I could register it in CA. ;)

    Owner found sticker and...

It says Federal and California compliant. I'm flying up to Portland tomorrow, buying it and riding it home.

    Thanks everyone.
