I see alot of sportbike riders with a backpack.
Anyone here use one regularly? What are you guys using?

I currently use a tank bag, but would like a little more storage without going to bike mounted bags.

I've used a backpack in the past but find it unconfortable. I usually use a tank bag and/or a rear seat mounted bag.

I actually have to drag my laptop back forth to work so I got a North Face Borealis pack (it has a laptop sleeve). works great because it has a waist strap and a chest strap so it stays put.

Great Moto Backpacks from the UK

Check out Kriega packs (http://www.kriega.com). Made in the UK, sold in the US by Aerostitch. Great construction, with a very unique quick-release buckle system that is perfect for getting it on and off whilst wearing your leathers or textile jacket. Plus, no straps to flap around in your face. Looks like a parachute; I've actually had people ask me if it was

I have the R25 and it's a good commute size; maybe a little big depending on what you have to carry. If you're travelling, I'd go with the R35 or add one of the add-ons (US-5, US-10) that attach to it. They also have an R15 and R20. The model number indicates capacity in liters.

    Here's a link: http://www.aerostich.com/aerosearch.php?restrict=Static&q=kriega

I use this Alpinestars Vader backpack (see below) just about everyday. I really never leave home without it. I have lots of goodies and supplies in there. IMO...it is much easier than taking a backpack on and off each time you get off and of the bike to go in a store/work.

Laptop barely fits my tank bag.
So, I use a swissgear backpack with laptop padded storage.
For weekend rides, just the tank bag.

I used to use an Alpinestars backpack from 6 years ago. Great bag with tons (kilos for you out of USA people) of room inside including a helmet net to hold it off the ride. It has a waist strap and padded back and is great for SHORT RIDES. I took a tour with it and wanted to chuck it off a cliff! I use a tail mounted bag now and my back thanks me for it...

That was my experience as well, first 300+ mile day with a backpack and I felt like I needed a chiropractor. Bought a Cortech tailbag instead.

I work for Burton Snowboards, and naturally, ride with a Burton Switch Pack.

Lots of small compartments, and a huge main compartment. It also has chest and waist straps, so it's really comfortable for pretty much any ride.

I have almost always ridden with a backpack, I feel kind of "naked" without it.

ride with one when commuting-also have tank bag and saddle bags. I haul alot of junk to work, use the saddle bags for groceries(24 hour shifts). I have a Toshiba computer back pack-one section all for laptop and papers, one for junk, and several small pockets for little stuff.

Agree on short time tolerances-my shoulders and neck hurt after long periods.

I went over 340 miles to Reggies BBQ with mine and it didn't bother me a bit....I think they are best used for shorter rides though. Compare them to a tankbag for ease of use getting on and off...going into stores, places to eat....works for me at least.

I have a cheapo backbag from wal-mart. Because it's a hassle getting it on and off I only use it for carrying stuff for a while like carrying overnight clothes to spend a night at a buddy's house.

I can tolerate the bag as long as I have the straps all the way loose. If the straps get tight the top of the bag starts hitting my helmet and I can't tilt my head back.

I do have a tank bag for stuff that I need to get quickly like wallet, gear, etc... Especially for tollbooths I just put quarters in a special compartment in the tank bag so I can get the change out quickly.

I also have to lug a laptop back and forth to work. I use a tank bag to carry my change of clothes, and a North Face Recon back pack for the laptop. It has a sleeve for the laptop and lots of smaller storage compartments, but the main compartment isn't that big, will fit maybe two good sized books besides the laptop so the load never gets that large. Also has the chest and hip straps to distribute the load.

i use a back pack when what i'm taking won't fit in the tank bag or i do not feel like putting on the side bags.

if your not carrieng heavy stuff it's fine, i do notice cross winds affect you a lot more.

Personally hate anything heavier than my 3litre HydroPack while riding so have a Ventura Rack system :thumb: and can choose how much room I'll need for a 3 day trip or just a work commute.

I was going to purchase a backpack but it was suggested to me to look into timbuk2 messenger bags. I did and I bought one. You can custom order one with all your wants and built to your colors and using material you want.

You wear it over one shoulder but has a waist strap to hold it in place. I find that I can carry more and it puts less pressure on my shoulders. since it ditributs the weight acron my chest.

I consider them to be dangerous and would never wear one.

I do ride with a back protector.

What is the danger considered to be...something lumpy to hurt you if you do fall? The one time I did fall it was a non-issue for me (I was wearing my KTM pack when I did fall). It did get scraped in several places so I know it did impact the ground. I wasn't carrying rocks or big knives or anything though...perhaps that might be a problem if I was!
