Being one that's always looking for more HP. I've thought about an engine transplant. I don't think I'll find an RC30 I could afford. I don't think an in-line four would fit inside the VFR's fairings, I wonder it the RC51 V twin would fit.

Would it work? Could it work? Something to make you go hmmm.

With enough time, money, a torch and a welder ANYTHING is possible. The only thing I see as a major issue would be the width of the engine. How would you mount it in a frame that is significantly wider than the original frame. Lining up the chain and routing the exhaust will be another obstacle. In all actuality I'd rather put a single sided swing arm on the RC-51, but that's just me. If you try this, please please keep us posted. This would be pretty cool to pull off!!!

Funny this is brought up, I've always wondered about doing just the opposite turning a VTR into a VFR like machine, take a 6th gen tail section, add a 4th gen swing arm, rework the upper clip-ons and figure out another front faring swap. seems doable to me, like Doug said with enough money and tools anything is possible.

This is more realistic of a change.

It would be much easier to convert a RC51 to a sport Touring bike.
you can put a SSSA on a 00 & 01 model RC51 (with some mods) from a VFR, & there is a kit for the later year RC51's but the Co is unreliable & I've heard only 2 units where ever made.

Or if you want lighter & more HP you could do what I did  (See my avitar bike list) that puppy cranks 148 hp & fly's. But a stock v-4 1000r with mild mods will rock as well

still could do major upgrades to the suspension & mods to the engine that you could do to a 800 & come close:wink:

I agree with everyone in that if you throw enough money at it, anything is possible. A lot of people have put a VFR SSS on a different bike (including an RC51). I've even seen one on a Yamaha FZ1. It looked really good, but keep in mind it's gotta be done by somebody that knows what they're doing.

Your best bet would be to buy a "true" sport bike (like a CBR 1k) and make it into more of a sport tourer. For example, you can put some Heli bars on it and lower the foot pegs as well. And don't forget, somebody's already got a supercharger for the 5th gen. VFR and is currently working on one for the 6th gen. VFR. It gives the bike over 150 rwhp.

Whatever you decide, best of luck to you.
