It has been a while, but here is what I recall... Mark the target spot inside the fairing by putting paint on the end of the R&G bolt shaft and gently tapping it against the panel. Remove that panel, reinstall the opposite panel and mark it the same way. The target spot is going to be a little "off" because the fairing is not flat. I used a hole saw that was smaller than the hole I ultimately needed. Then I trimmed the hole out with a Dremel tool. Go slow, test the fit several times as you go and you will end up with the right clearance around the slider. You will need two wrenches to do the final tightening; one on each end. I don't remember the size, but I recall thinking that I was lucky to have two because the size is not something that I need often. Patience is needed for this installation, but you will be pleased with the result. The R&G sliders are exceptionally well-made and seem strong enough to hold up a house. I have not actually crashed with them (knock on wood...) but I did drop the bike while backing up in the driveway. Embarrassing, but no damage. Prior to installing the R&Gs, I had a similar tipover that cost me hundreds in fairing repair. Good luck...
Thanks for the reply. I actually instaled them Wendesday night. I did them the same way you did, and yes patience is all I needed for this installation. Came out looking great, I just hope I dont need them.
