Hey VF experts. I solved one gremlin only to come across another. Expected as much. The bike now starts perfectly and putters around town without a hiccup, although when I get it on the highway and open up the throttle it bogs and sputters around 5500-6500rpm+. I checked the size of the main jets, to make sure the guy that rebuilt them put the right ones in, and found 130's in there. Stock calls for 135 front and 138 back. Pretty hard to find jets of that size up here but managed to scrounge up two 135's and two 137.5's from several buddies. Took her out for a ride and it bogged worse then before 4800-5500rpm+. Too rich. Any ideas? Not sure how much to decrease the main jets size, without leaning it out too much, and don't have a lot of jets to choose from. Everything on this bike is stock, air cleaner is new, exhaust is clear, carbs/jets clean and fresh, new ignition (coils, wires, plugs, pulsers).

Another question I have is this; Any manual, or parts locator, I look at says Honda didn't make a "1984 VF750 Sabre" only 82 and 83. '84's were 700 Sabres.. My frame tag says 84 and my engine block says 748cm3. Is it possible it's mislabeled and is actually a 700? Are there any visible differences in the engines I could look for to confirm this? I know its a bit of a reach, but not sure why else it would need to be leaned out so much. The 700 jets are 122 front 130 rear. Will probably try that next, if no one responds.

    Thanks in advance!

When I had my Seca 750 I bought jets from this company. I'd get them in about 3 days.
Jets R Us mikuni, keihin, hitachi, holley, jets and carb parts
How do you know it was too rich? Did you do a plug chop? I'd plug chop and see if it's lean or rich and you'll have a better starting point on whether to go up or down. That is weird that it ran worse when you got close to the stock jetting. Are the carbs the correct carbs for a 750? Could you have 700 carbs?

Some had carb springs that were different length front and back; and if so, they could be wrongly installed. Just a guess.

    Is it snowing yet ?

Sorry. Not sure what a plug chop is. I figured it was running rich because the symptom showed up at a lower rpm then before after enlarging the jet size. No backfiring or popping, or general lean mixture symptoms. The springs are the same length for sure. Good idea though. Going to try and jet it like a 700 and see what happens. Canadian stock jets are 95 and 98, and american size is 122 and 130. Had to order all but 130. Think I'll be pulling the carbs several times next weekend. Would 700 carbs even fit on a 750? No snow yet. But riding season is quickly getting shorter! Have to switch to Doo-talk soon.
