First, let me introduce myself as a newcomer here. I've gotten lots of good help from this site already just browsing through the different posts. Now I need help with my 85 VF500F. No spark is the issue. According to the Clymer's manual, the ignition coils are no good because they show infinite resistance between the secondary post and ground. I thought it was questionable that BOTH coils would go bad at the same time, so I checked at a local boneyard today, and put the ohm meter to about a dozen other coils of the same type off of various VF's. They all read the same. So, are they all bad?, or is the manual wrong? Not that I really care who's right and who's wrong, I just need to find out why I don't have any spark! Does anyone know what the accurate way of measuring these coils is, and what the values should be?
Primary (Between spade connectors of ignition coil) resistance 2.8 Ohms Secondary (between ignition coils pins where HT cables attach) resistance 12.5 KOhms ~ 15.5 KOhms There is no ground in these measurements.
