Right now I have Dunlop Roadsmarts on my 4th gen. which were on it when I bought it. They are pretty much worn out and I didn't particularly like how they felt or handled, especially when wearing down. I have a GSXR1000 and have always ridden it with Bridgestones. Last couple of sets were BT-016's. They handle well, and I have no complaints.

I am thinking of putting BT-016's on my my 4th gen. as I intend to ride down to Deals Gap, from Canada, and then ride back on the Blue Ridge Parkway. That means plenty of turns around the Gap and area, so I want a good handling tire.. I'm just wondering if the extra weight of the VFR is going to be detrimental to the handling in the twisties. Has anyone used this tire on their VFR, and if so what are your feelings in regards to it's suitability.

    Any observations would be appreciated.

Have you thought about Michelin Pilot Powers 3 ?

They are great street / sports tires with good mileage.

A fellow VFR 4 Gen owner I've ridden with liked them, but didn't have much luck with the mileage, but then again he rides pretty aggressively most of the time. How many miles are you getting with your Gixxer? The "extra" weight of the VFR is only noticeable when going slow IMO. Any new sport touring tire should give you what you are looking for and also give you enough mileage that you can take that round trip without being the guy who had "almost" enough tire to make it home. I've had great luck with the Michelin PR2s and so have many other VFR owners (PR2 & PR3). Awesome mileage and good grip too.

I had Michelins Roads on an SV1000 once. Thought they were a pretty good tire, but, I basically want to use BT-016s because I am very familiar with their handling, and what I can personally do on them when it comes to curves. Riding familiar roads around the gap is going to make me want to throw the bike around as if it was my gixxer. Want a tire I have faith in.

I'm a 6th gen guy but I ride the BT-016, BT-016 pros. I run about 4K per set. They keep traction throughout the life of the tire. I think they are a straight up great street tire. The S20 is the BT-016 replacement.

I would go with BT-023s for that much travel. The set on my 5th-gen has about 7,500 miles on it, and I'm expecting the rear to make it to 10,000 at least. That includes a weekend at the Gap where I pushed the bike further than I ever have, a couple of other long trips, lots and lots of highway and city commuting, and a fair amount of rain. They don't have as much absolute grip as a full-on sport bike tire, but the dual-compound construction kind of lets you have your cake and eat it too. They handle great, the turn-in really surprised me when they were new, and they hold a line really well.

I did some research on the 23's. They seem like a good tire. But for $50 more I can get Dunlop Roadsmart 2's. Much as I don't particularly want Roadsmarts, I'm thinking Roadsmart 2's must be better than the original Roadsmart from the reviews I've read. And I do like Dunlop tires. Problem I'v found with the BT-016's is I can't seem to find any 170 rears. Definately don't want to put on a 180. Will have to decide in a few weeks when the season starts.

Fellow member OCLandspeeder just bought the Dunlop RS2s and he loves them. I didn't care for the RS that were on my 09 when I bought it, but the RS2 seems to be a much better tire. I don't have anything against Dunlop myself, but I've always had good luck with Michelin, so that's what I've been buying lately. I can say that the Dunlop Q2s were a great tire, they just didn't last me that long, ~3k miles!
