Another VFR addict born.

I am one of those uppity women riders.(no leather or tattoos version ) I just got an 86 VFR700F2 with 32K miles. My third old Honda in 2 years. Rode the other 2 (500 and 650 Silver Wings ) solo to Hyder and down the Pacific Coast Highway to the border last year. Developing tour addiction.....
I would welcome all advice/suggestions re setting this up for sport touring-- I plan to ride it to several rallyes in the NW this summer. Hard bags/soft bags? (I have Ortliebs) Bigger windshield? Lip? Bars? Security en route:locks/alarms? Regular or hi-test fuel? Castrol or synthetic oil? etc. etc. I guess I'll be reading several hours of this site! Thanks for being here.

I put the Givi 52 ltr bag on the back of mine, with the backrest for my wife, it takes 2 full face helmets, 24 packs of beer, tons of stuff, and then I complimented that with a tank bag that splits into two. One is a back pack, the other piece has a clear bit that I can use for maps, inside I put my rain gear and bunji cords.

I have a tank bag like that- HELD brand- little backpack and a map case. It is very nice- good reflector strips and has great pockets inside. it is my GPS system( a map and some directions scribbled on the margins...)

 

Be careful with synthetic oil on an older bike. Synthetics are much slipprier (if that's a word) and can cause clutch slipping. My fiance has a 1997 Honda PC 800 that I put in synthetic and it had slipping problems so I went back to Honda regular 10-40.
