Well I put a new battery in today got one of the trugels and went riding after about thirty miles the bike stopped in the middle of traffic just shut off. The temp gauge was at about half nothing crazy i just dont understand the v-four gods are not blessing me. Ive researched i read something about the petcock or fuel valve and couple other things but i really dont know where to actually start. Also after a ride i park ny in the driveway leave it running while i go open the gate thats maybe 50 feet away come back and the bike has shut off and temp gauge says the temp is really high more then 3/4 entirely to hot. I know these bikes get hot but that fast?

if it's not the petcock it could be the coils dieing. Every one I've had die would run fine cold but once it got warm it would stop firing. Go by the parts store and pick up a thing that looks like a spark plug with a clip on it, when it dies, unplug a plug wire, plug the device in clip it to a head bolt and try starting it to see if it's firing. could be coils, ignition, fuel way to many things to cause it to die. have to start some where.

also, take a flat head screw driver with you when you ride, if it dies loosen one of the carb drain screws and make sure there is fuel in the bowls.

Do you still have a fuel pump or was the bike converted to gravity feed the carbs?

OR just use an old plug you carry in the tool tray...........

If one coil quit, the bike would still run, just missing on one cylinder.

Have you checked the charging system output voltage across the battery terminals ??

You might have a failing fuel pump relay, so try bypassing it at the plug as the FSM describes

Sitting in traffic on a hot day, yes, 3/4 scale is normal. Fan should switch on at anything over that.
