The ancestor of the VFR was not quite as succesful on its own. It is nonetheless one of several brilliant examples of Honda finding its own paths in motor design. Of the many good articles I have read in the times of printed motorcycle magazines the attached article from Cycle, Jan 1981 (PDF file) I found interesting with its attempt to reverse engineering. Have you heard the rumors about Honda's V4 ?
