I just picked up my new '07 from a local dealer the other weekend. Bike runds great. Bad weather in NYS prevents me from riding a lot right now. Only 100 miles so far.

The bikes and '07, so I buy in in '11. Thats 4 years the bikes been sitting there on the show room floor.

Q1: Does the oil break down after all that time?

Q2: The dealer said he changed the oil before I picked it up, but how do I know for sure? Is it okay to change the oil at 100 miles w Pro Honda GN4, just so I have some peace of mind?

Last thing I want is to go thru the break in w 4 year old oil in the engine.

Hey alex5160, I also just bought a 2002 vfr800 with abs from a private seller and rode it for a little bit. I decided to do an oil change and thank goodness I did. The oil was super black and had a fine-grain sand feel to it.

So to answer your question, it is perfectly okay to change your oil now. I would to be sure and think of it this way - you are putting fresh oil in your bike and oil is cheap. You are not hurting your bike one bit.

Have a blast with your new machine. I know I do.

Welcome! I live in Rochester and own an 03. Where did you get your bike? As for the oil change - feel free to change it. You're not going to hurt a thing and you'll get some of the crap out from the break in. You might want to wait a few more miles (til the 500 or 600 mark).

As to the weather - it's not all bad. I've been on the bike 5-6 times already. As long as there's no rain in the forecast I'll ride it (down to about 25 degrees or so).

tmyoungjr: I live in Brockport and work in Henrietta. Bought the bike in Batavia. I think I will follow my gut and change the oil to be safe. It's hard for me to trust anyone these days. What does the dealer care, they got their money. I just feel like the dealer is lying to me. Why? I just have that feeling.

Nice to meet you then. I work in Brighton - we'll probably pass each other one of these days :)

As for changing it - go right ahead you won't hurt a thing. I've got everything to get mine done along with changing the air filter. Just waiting on a few more parts and I'll get it done.

Rule #1. Don't believe a SINGLE thing the dealer tells you. Change the oil NOW.

Who cares what the dealer said. You will want to change at about 300 miles anyway to get any left over mfg debris out. Then again at 1000 miles. Etc. Etc. Then you can join the other oil debates. Syn vs dino, which filter to use.

So even though your question had not been asked, it can still draw lots of oil related opinion.

Congrats on the bike and welcome
