Well, this Forum is all about sharing our experiences so that others may learn from our sillyness. right....?

I merged onto a busy 2 lane highway yesterday, the right lane was pretty thick with cars, the left not so much, but all were moving at about 45 mph. I got behind a lincoln and checked my left mirror to see that the left lane was pretty much open (sweet, I like open road better...), so then I do the mandatory look-check when you turn your head to make sure you didnt miss anything in your mirrors.
When I turned back foreward, the lincoln that was doing 45 or so in front of me had slowed to 10 to let somebody into the lane that was being an a$$ and trying to beat traffic by passing in the breakdown lane. The lincoln was about 15 feet ahead of me. Well thank god for quick reflexes and ABS, because I locked em up quick, it unlocked them, and repeat. I slowed JUST before whacking the car and was able to hop in the left lane and accelerate away (acting like nothing happened...).

So pretty much I almost whacked into someone since I was more concerned with what was going on where I WANTED to be and not enough concerned with what was going on where I WAS. It seems there is a delicate balance there.

I wouldn't have been hurt, but the Viffer would have, and that would be even WORSE!!

Every time I start to think im a hot sh1t, something like this happens and I feel like a newbie. So I said a few of these :pope2: last night and thanked the big man for keeping my bum outta the sling one more time...

Thanks for sharing your silly experience and I'm glad to hear you and your baby are all right! Yes I agree that it's tricky juggling between where you want to go and where you are. That's why I never tailgate because I like having room for error in case the car up ahead slows down all of sudden.

Speaking of :pope2: I think you should change your title "Professional Bra-Fitter" since the big man doesn't want us to lead a life of sin and that's only fair since he saved your :moonie:

Not too long ago I had a sorta "hot sh*t" moment when I passed a car in a curve nearly hitting the redline and I shifted up. The bike osscilated wildly from the gear shifting and I felt like I was riding a wild bull. From that experience I tightened up the suspension to its max settings and now I don't get that wild bull experience from shifting at the redline.

Thanks for the story. It amazes me sometimes how quick things like that can happen. Have you unclenched yet? lol

Glad your ok. Could been nasty. I have a couple riding buddys that habitually ride close to the cars in front. It just seems like someday its not gonna be pretty. Guess I'm just a chicken in traffic, I give lots of room between me and the car ahead so I have room to move if the situation demands. There have been more than a few times where this has paid off. I think this has kept me in one piece over the years. No screwing off in traffic.

Glad you're OK and lived to tell the story. You're right - things can happen in a split second.
    ABS brakes are terrific, eh?

It's good to be a chicken in traffic. Traffic chickens live longer.
