I found this article on the AMA website, and have already taken action. This is another example of an ignorant politician trying to legislate what we as a general populous can, or can not do. I have already sent my message (even though I'm in Germany, my legal residance is still Washington State). This can affect us in a very bad way.

I saw this news report a couple of weeks ago in Canada. It seemed to me like typical political posturing. The guy was so way over the top I think most people will dismiss him, I certainly hope so. Unfortunately there are a small group of motorcyclists who show great disrespect for those around them. Especially with very loud exhaust systems in or close to residential areas. Because we are a minority group we make easy targets for these idiot posturing politians. I think as a group we need to respond to this sort of stupidity but I also think we need to act responsibly as a group. But to put it in context these types of attacks have been going on as long as I have been involved in motorcycling which is 35 years.

Yea pretty damn stupid if you ask me we have the wrong people in office yet we the people put then there makes me wonder WTF.. Freaking thinking they are doing good thing that really gets me going is, if this gets through whats next? I know lets turn it around onto the boaters, now theres a group that needs spanked LOL what they 'll do is set a a permit process so you'll have to pay to be able to ride your own machine on your own property, what a bunch of nonsense this all is.

on a side note, since I live in this great town, I saw, wanted to stop and see more, a huge ORV rally on the capitol campus, was looking around for what was going on in detail, I never did hear anything, so has me wondering.

What really kills me is that they seem to go after asmall group of ppl. For instance my parents house is 1/4 mile from I-5. You can hear the hum of the freeway from their house. What if that ban was put on cars, instead of off-road vehicles. That would lose waaay to much $$$, and it would never pass, as everyone would be so up in arms about it. So instead they pick on a smaller group of ppl, who they think don't listen, or won't mind. I though about being a politician for a littlewhile, but then I could never fulfill my dream as a used car salesman, because everyone would know I was a liar already ( no offense to used car salesmen, but who would believe a retired politician? Even if you were a totally honest salesman?). Ok, I'm stepping off my soapbox now. Thanks for letting me rant...

But once again the actions of a few are held against the majority. Think you have a "right" to loud pipes? Nothing fuels proposed (and actual) bike bans quicker than loud pipes. It just fires people up.

You are dead on my man!

I get so irritated with people who think thay have a constitutional right to loud pipes?!?!?

I am not for banning things as a way to solve problems that may or may not ill society, but man the loud pipe thing has gotten real old quick. It's the number one thing most non-riders complain about(in my experiance). Funny thing is, it was the number one complaint back in the 19 teens too when motorcycling was just getting off the ground.

And as far as loud pipes save lives, NO THEY DO NOT! No motorcycle safety study has ever shown loud pipes to make people more aware of motorcycles. In a few instances I am sure it has helped someone, just like my bike is bright red, so they saw me, but I have had people come up on me and I did not hear them until they were in my field of vision anyway.

Fact is, some motorcyclists are ruining our sport for a fashion statement. I remeber when LOUD pipes were a novelty or on a drag bike. Now everyone has them!

I am stepping down from my soapbox!

Unfortunately I think it is worse than they don't think we listen or won't mind. I believe that it is more a case of "it's a small group so who gives a s--t what they think". Politicians who do this sort of thing are just trying to score points with the general voting public. Can't let facts or reality get in the way.:censored:

I know this is an old-ish thread, but I'm hoping to put this one to bed for ALL of us.

According to the June 2007 issue of "CYCLE WORLD" on page 36, the hopefully final lap of this sordid topic is taken. Seems Senator Kline's bill #SB5544 died the death it deserves.

I know nothing of US federal and state politics, but what happens south of the 49th usually makes its way north in one form or another. I'm hoping that since the topic has been closed in the senate that it cannot be brought up again. And maybe, just maybe at next election time, the good people of Washington State can look at Senator Kline's record and vote accordingly. And hopefully our Canadian counterparts will take note.
