I now have 4500 miles on the 06 and wanted to replace the air filter. Was wondering where everyone buys there replacement parts ie. air filter, etc.? Dealer, internet, other? Was considering a K&N. Did anyone notice a significant difference in performance or fuel economy?? Thanks

I recently installed a BMC brand air filter and wow, what a difference! The bike revs quicker and feels like it got a 10 hp boost. I mostly got it to save money in the long run. With the stock filter you have to replace the whole thing but with the BMC filter all you got to do is clean it out and reuse it.

You can get them from www.kneedraggers.com

As for K&N I haven't tried it but I searched this forum and it got some mixed reviews. KC-10 FE said he couldn't see a difference between the stock and K&N filters.

I have a K&N but have heard better things about the B&N or whatever initials the others were talking about. I don't notice a huge difference compared to stock, but it's convenient to just wash and recharge...

I just got a K&N filter from BikeBandit.com They seem to have most things you could want and usually get them delivered quicker than most bike shops can get them in.
As for performance... I've put K&N on all my vehicles and always notice slightly quicker revs and a little boost in power. The biggest difference was on my '05 Saabaru (WRX wagon) which made a huge difference in where the turbo kicked in and high rpm pulling.
Don't know anything about the BMC. Mainly I've made the change so I don't have to replace air filters anymore, the extra power is just a bonus.

I've had a K&N on my 92 for 11 years now, and the difference in power was noticeable from the get go. Makes a lot of sense - more air into the mixture provides for greater combustion.
As far as cleaning is concerned, you can buy a "recharge" kit at nearly any autoparts store, which includes cleaner/degreaser and a oil to resaturate it with. I think Autozone charges about $15 for the kit - really quite reasonable. I'm sure SimpleGreen would work wonders as well.
    Good Luck.

I have a K&N and think being reusable is a nice feature.
I don't buy the marketing hype though. Once the filter has some particulate in it, I don't think it flows any better than a throw-away stocker. MHO, no data.

I know it's dusty in AZ...... but your stock original filter should be OK for about 10,000 miles.
