hi everyone, i"m sure someone has done this and knows more than i do,and i can"t find it on the forum. has anyone tried to take off the metal screen on the stock air filter? if so, would it lean out the bike? i took my screen off the old stock one and tried it before i put the new one in. ( also snorkle removal) i can't tell. i feel i lost somehting down low, but the top end felt good. the stock filter with no screen seems like it would be just as good as a k&n. im going to try to put the snorkle back in, with no screen. also im running 2008 yamaha R1 HMF conical exhuast. stock header. if anyone can give me thoughts and ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

You are not going to change the amount of air it flows whether it has a screen or not. The filter element is what is limiting flow, not the screen.
According to research on the RC51 (different bike, but still a Honda sportbike and larger capacity) the stock filter flowed more air than the engine could ever use at the rev limit. No reason to change the filters. Still, some changed to aftermarket filters and the dyno showed no impact, and in some cases slight decreases.

You are much better off spending your time dialing in your Air-Fuel ratio with a Power Commander or such addition.
    Hope that helps.
