I was polishing my bike today when I neighbor came up to me with his Chinese scooter. He asked if I knew why the front brake sounded weird. I looked at the brake pads and they had meat on them. I then looked at the front caliper. It was loose and floppy. That ain't right. Looked a little bit more and saw that one of the caliper bolts was missing and the top one was loose. I tried tightening it up and found it was stripped. His scooter only has 320 miles on it! I don't know if it was the factory or the owner, but damned dangerous! The guy said he didn't have any tools, so I'm thinking factory or whomever assembled it. A trip to a local hardware store and $1.20 later and he can actually stop now. Luckily the caliper bolts tighten into steel, not aluminum, else he would be ordering a new caliper. Interestingly enough, when I was testing it, I was surprised at how good the front brake felt on it. I could even lock the front tire, but that is on 52 degree tires and pavement. Glad he came to me, he works graveyard at the local 7-11 and who knows how much longer the one remaining bolt would have lasted. My guess is not much longer! I took it for a quick buzz around the complex here and I forgot how tiny those little scooters feel! All 50ccs moving my big ass around! Still, kinda fun! But I have never been an anti-scooter snob. My first set of two wheels was a Puch moped. Pedals and everything!
Wish we had a picture of you with all your gear on riding the scooter. ..now that would be funny Chester
No gear on, it was just around the area in front of my apartment. But, I think I will ask him if I can do that!
