Aftermarket Foam air filter?

Hi, has anyone sourced a foam air filter? Cheers

 

I got one from Pipercross....and one for the car too. Free postage this month

 

Use a piper cross in mine.

Avoid UNI filters as they disintegrate after a couple years !

 

BMC race, if you can find one. I did back to back tests of UNI, stock, Piper, K&N, and BMC race on a dyno with my 6g. Back to back to back to back to back. Same atmospheric conditions, same machine, same tune, same fuel, same airbox configuration, same dyno. The BMC race outperformed all of the rest. The dyno used was a Factory Pro EC997. You can take that for what it's worth, up to you.

 

Thanks for the reply mate but I already bought the pipercross. (I was kind of looking at a foam filter as I've already have a container of foam oil)

 

No worries, the differences between all of them is only something that can be measured with a dyno, some might say they can feel the difference, but I think it's more the change in airbox sound that people are equating to an increase in power. The stock filter is actually very good, it's just not re-usable. I would put a brick in the airbox before I would use a K&N. Not sure you can even get a BMC Race at this point...they started disappearing about the same time as the Power Commander III. CARB and Euro 2/3 emissions standards kind of killed the availability. The Pipercross is a good filter.

 

After googling BMC I found one available on Ebay, £70+ delivered. But I've gone with the foam choice and it's £30 cheaper........the price of a dyno run perhaps?

 

I only did the comparison because I had the dyno and operator availability, and there were more "feelings" about filters than hard data. Also tested the difference between race fuel and pump gas on the same day. Was just doing some fine tuning of the final engine package on my 6g project. Figured it was best to trust hard numbers, rather than internet opinions. Like I said, most people won't be able to tell the difference on a stock engine, other than an increase in sound level, but when it's part of an overall package, it does make a decent difference.

 

Is it the BMC RACE, or just the standard BMC? there is a pretty big difference in the size of the actual opening between the two. Don't think BMC is even offering the BMC RACE anymore....
