I recently purchased my 1990 and I've been looking at a high side exhaust for it. I'm very new to the mechanics side of these bikes so I'm inquiring.

    A couple questions :

If I purchase a slip on, will I have to re jet the carbs?

If I go high side, will I have to customize the bike in any way?

Why do so many people fawn over the left side exhaust option? It looks as though it's much less functional.

No, it is not necessary for just a slip-on.

Not a 100% sure on a '90, but usually it is minor if anything. My bike (5th gen) needed a small piece cut on the bottom side of the right fairing for mounting bolt clearance....other than that, no other change was needed.

Not sure what you are asking. Change from righthand side to left? What does "fawn" mean? Frown?

    No not frown,

Fawn - to praise someone too much and give them a lot of attention.

It seems as though the left side option has some sort of special elevated distinction that I'm not understanding?

Oh I see now, you are just trying to use words over my head. I see how you are. Picking on the little guy....I will take my flock and move elsewhere.... :flock: :flock: :flock:

    Just messin' bud...

I just tried to use the word "fawn" (in your definition) on two people in Accounting at work, and they both said "fawn, isn't that a small deer?"

    Ok... I get it now.

The first bike with the left side pipe looks as though it has lost clearance, and aesthetically the pipe doesn't follow the lines the of the bike. The second looks better to me but it doesn't follow the lines of the bike either. Your high side exhaust looks great, it follows the lines of the bike perfect. See where I'm coming from?

Jason, you work with a bunch of illiterate’s

Seattle, nice looking bike, and I don't know why left side exhaust is a big deal either. I would guess that people do it to show off the wheel and after the effort they like tell everyone about it.

Easier rear wheel removal would be a plus of that....and like Action Jackson said, shows off your sneaker.

Hey Action, I have a new tag line for you (not original I know). Maybe you could get a T-shirt made.

"ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS!" Just leave action non-plural. I have been thinking long and hard about it....hours and days and nights it took me!

    Left side for 3rd gen

The REAL crux (look that one up, too) of the question is finding a left side exhaust for the 3rd gen.

You can wait for the fabled Two Brothers unit to pop up (only slightly unobtainium) or you can use a RC30 unit (just slightly MORE rare) and make your own.

Or you can go right side, low or high, quite easily.

Your money, your time, your bike.

    Jason,
Thanks for thinking about me. I used to have a shirt with that phrase on it (it also had a silhouette of a girl on a bike) . Somehow it disappeared after I got married:xxx: Hope you guys have a good weekend. I've got honey-do's this weekend but I've got a group ride in the mountains next weekend.

i think there is a hi mount right side micron that looks cool on your bike usually a rejet is better to gain more performance think about it the pipe will flow more freely therefore you can burn more gas less backpressure will also make it leaner in the main jet or you must contact canib whiskey technologies he can make you a custom exhaust for a fifth of jack and about 15 dollars ..check it out in other mod threads its cool.........
