Hey Y'all, Can anyone give me the scoop on the 2004 model? I was on the hunt for a vfr1200 but, found a deal that I just CAN'T pass up! Last bike I owned was a CBR900 (1993). I'm new to VFRW and looking for nuances with the 800... Thanks in advance! -J
Can't help you except that I think some models had a wiring harness recall. If so, check that it has been done. Otherwise the normal used bike checks.
Can you tell us more about the bike. Mileage? Modifications? If the bike has more that 16K, ask if the valves have been checked. They are rarely out of spec even up to 64k, so not a big deal, just peace of mind. Also, when looking at it, try to listen for a noticeable metallic clicking, that may indicate that the Cam chain tensioner is on its way out. Other than those, call the VIN into Honda and see if the wiring harness recall has been done. Those seem to bee the issues with the 6th gen bike, so if all of above seems good to go, she should last you many years and miles.
And of course any maintenance records, chain and sprockets, fluid flush and change, date on tire sidewall and wear. Oh and make sure it has the owners manual and tool kit, see if the battery has been replaced, I think there life span are around 5+ years. Hopefully you can bring an experienced rider with u out..two sets of eye's are always a plus.....good luck.....also if you do decide to gather it up and haul it away, a company by the name of Canyondancer is a good solution to tie your bike down....have one and works great.....have a bud that drives a tow truck and says he uses his multiple times a day.
