For your edutainment pleasure here's a picture of my bike while I'm doing a starter valve adjustment:

A friend was telling me about this idea that he found online and VFRD has a thread on it:
    VFRD > Homemade Manometer

It wasn't that hard to set up. I used vegetable oil as the "indicator" and the hardest part was fitting the adapter into the vacuum tubes. But once I got it hooked up it was cake.

If you want to try this yourself make sure to note that your goal isn't to get the levels all the same. What you want is something that resembles steps where vacuum tube 1 is highest, tube 2 below tube 1, tube 3 below tube 2, and tube 4 below tube 3.

After doing this procedure I've noticed that the engine is smoother on idle and I don't smell gas like I used to (running lean). If anything it was a fun way to waste a saturday afternoon!

looks like a gaint version of carb sticks or carb syncronizers remember those?? ohh wait your bike has carbs right?? yeaaahhha uhh those are carb sticks and really they should all flow the mercurey at the same level when you give it gas or at idle .. i have used those since 1987..

Well those aren't technically carb sticks... I connect the tubes to vacuum tubes to synchronize the starter valves.

funny you posted this today. i just did mine this evening also. i however have a regular manometer to use. mine wasn't off much but it does smooth out the idle a little.
