Last night on the way home my VFR was hit by some woman not looking what she was doing. I was going straight over on a roundabout (4 way juntion with island in the middle). I had right of way as she has to give way to the right, me! I saw her moving just as I was getting in line with her and managed to stop dead but her bumper took my front wheel out and knocked me flat on the floor. Damage seems to be quite serious, handle bars and wheel don't point forward together anymore, most of the fairings cracked on the RH side, fuel tank scratched and dented, front brake and right peg broken off, front wheel doesn't look good. I'm insured, but the cost of repair might exceed value of bike and it may have to go to VFR heaven. Have to say the copper that happened to turn up was with me all the way and was very professional in his duties. What wasn't so great is the 24hr emergency number for the insurance that couldn't help me at all. Hopefully the old girl will live again, she's not a youngster anymore but you know what they say about riding milf's
Glad to see you're still around tell the tale. It could have been much worse. Just goes to show you can NEVER trust a cager. Must be very frustrating. I wish you all the luck with the insurance. Hopefully, everything will turn out into your favour. Either a new VFR or a nicely fixed up "milf". Good luck!
Your post implies that you are planning on reporting to your own insurance company? Why are you not going after the other party for damages especially if they were at fault. Regards, Rollin
A strange thing about New Zealand, Insurance is not compulsory. If you don't have it you have to pay yourself for damage to 3rd party. Question is if some little oik has no insurance, no money and no intention of paying, how do you recover your loss? I'm insured so my insurers will pay me out and then go banging on the door of the womans insurers or send the boys round to knock on her door. I'm screwed because I loved my 3rd Gen, there aren't many around in NZ and later Gens are very expensive. I don't really want to ride round on mine again if the front end was mangled, could I really trust it.
Downed 3rd gen Sounds like the perfect time for the infamous USD fork conversion with wheel and all, and some new bodywork. Larry
