My main ABS fuse has blown twice in the past 1500 miles or so. That may or may not be related.

On Sunday, I bled my brakes and changed my pads. I used a mityvac and was careful never to let either of the reservoirs run dry.

Yesterday morning on my way to work.. brakes feel rock solid and way better than before. Coming to the third stoplight on my commute, it felt like I hit a pebble - and my ABS light starts blinking.

I get home yesterday evening and read code 10 - front modulator unit. I reset the codes... and upon turning the key back on, the front modulator solenoid makes a "thwump!" sound and the ABS light starts blinking again. Still code 10.

I'm pretty confident that there isn't air in the lines...and even if there were a bit of air in there, I don't see how this would make the modulator fail its power on self test immediately.

Not being 100% confident it is the front modulator (and the fact that replacing it requires draining the entire brake system) I'm about ready to take the bike to the local dealer.

    Any other ideas?

Is there any thing the matter with the abs sensor, ive never had any problems with the abs other than sensor problems (im a motor tech not a motorcycle tech) however if a car was to hit a pot hole the same problem would happen. Broken wire or damaged sensor in my eyes, You bleadin the brakes souldnt give any problems.......

ANYHOW IF THERE IS ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DO LET ME KNOW

Hi Marc, thanks for your reply. There are specific codes for the sensors.. this code is definitely for the modulating unit. Also, the sensors don't complete their self test (turning the ABS light off) until you've reached approx 6mph. My ABS light begins blinking (fault recorded) as soon as the key is turned on.

blwn fuse makes me think maybe the modulator may have an internal short in a part that only gets activated sometimes. im not completely familiar w/ setup on motorcycles but i have to assume it is somewhat like cars and has some kind of pump and soleniod setup in the modulator to control wheel lockup. my guess would be a bad pump if so.

update: i looked at a wiring diag. for an 02,( dont know what year yours is), but if its the same it could be control unit itself. it appears the control unit houses the relays for the pump instead of external relays. there is a rervice manual download with diagnostics for the 02 and also a few yaers back( couldn't open link for some reason) in the specifications forum. hope that helps
