Hi all this is my first post here, I just signed up to the site today. I am a member of several forums including biking forums. This seems like a great group of riders here.

As the title states I may be purchasing an 07 bought in 08, it has 800Kms on the clock. My concern is the seat height and weight. My wife rides as well and it would be great if she can ride this bike. I had a couple of KLR 650's and she rode one of those for a while but I had to sell one as the seat height and top heavy weight was a issue for her. My wife is 5'7" with limited riding experience.

    Any thoughts or comment?

Thanks in advance, hopefully I do end up getting this bike and chatting with you guys more.

Isn't the seat height of a klr about 55Inches? The 07 vfr is about, what 32? I would think if she could ride the klr she could ride the vfr. I Just went from an 08 XR650L to the 07 VFR and it was like sitting on the floor...but so much more comfortable. If you are going to buy one, why not let the wife sit on the bike first?

My Wife is 5'8" and has no problem with the height, but she doesn't really like the weight.

Welcome Scrumfle...the thing with a VFRs' weight is that it can feel heavy while at a stop or at off idle speeds but once you get it moving it rides like it's 80lbs lighter, handles 80lbs lighter too. I think you'll find that the bike does a lot of the work for you.

Sorry Scrumfle, I guess my comment was more for Dave...Welcome to you aswell!

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Scrumfle, yes the KLR is 35" and top heavy it is also the reason we sold it, she wasn't comfortable with it. The bike is used and a three hour drive away, there is one at a dealer 1.5 hours away but finding the time to get there is hard at the moment. I think the xr seat height is close to the same so that helps in comparing it.

Thanks Anjo and havcar I guess if she can flat foot it and it is upright she may not have a problem.

Just wish I could see one to know for sure. The joys of living in a small town.

i am 5'6" tall, with a 28" inseam. i can only get one foot flat on the ground, but it hasn't really been a problem for me. if she can handle the weight, she shouldn't have any problem at all. best of luck with your purchase. and welcome to the forum.
