The bike doesn't like to start right away, so I twist the throttle a few times. it seems to help after about three tries it starts up, but sometimes it got stuck wide open. I just wonder if I am not starting the bike up right. I know my car likes to start when I press the gas pedal 1/4 down it has FI too.:distrust:

If, like you have posted, you are still running the 06, then twisting the throttle when the bike is not turned on, does nothing to help you start the bike. Any improvement has to be imagined and not factual. The 06 is fuel injected and there is an electric fuel pump. Absolutely nothing gets sent to the injectors until the key is turned on. You can hear the pump.

I don't know this for sure, but even if you turned the key on and cranked the throttle a bit before you engaged the starter, I don't see how that would have any effect either. Again, it is fuel injected and no carbs to prime, which sounds like you are alluding to.

If your throttle is sticking open, you should address that and get it fixed right away. That is simply wrong and it can be dangerous. There is an adjustment for that on the throttle cable. Adjusting the cable adds a bit more tension to the return cable which will pull the throttle back when you release it. What you may discover, is that the throttle has become dry between the plastic throttle barrel and the metal handlebar. You may need to remove that and apply a film of all purpose grease there.

It should fire right up within a second or so of pressing the starter button. If it doesn't, I'd start by checking the battery and the connection from the battery to the starter.

Its not the battery, but the sticky throttle by the clip-ons needs grease. I guess twisting the throttle does nothing. On my car its FI too, the manual does say when cold press on the gas pedal a 1/4 inch when starting.

What Randy said! You have another issue going on as you shouldn't have to touch the throttle. My bike sat for 4 months this past winter and still fired off quick. The only thing I've ever seen about twisting the throttle is if the engine is flooded. Turn to WOT and push the button. This clears the engine was all fuel flow is cut off.

Harley makes floorboards with gas pedals that might work on your bike with enough zip ties. Some harleydoods use the pedals because somehow the eye hand coordination transitioning from cage to bike, escapes them. They are easy to spot because their bikes look like they have fallen over a bunch.

I shot some penetrating oil on the sticky throttle, every thing has a starting method. I know now I do not try and put more gas into a fi bike by twisting the throttle, the electric pump does that

Could be your fuel pressure regulator is bogus. Or pump isn't up to spec pressure wise.

Wait about 15-20 seconds after turning key on for FI system to prime and pressurize.

With mine I just switch on, listen to the fuel pump priming, when it goes quiet press the starter button and away she goes. Let it tick over until it is at its usual idle then mount the old girl and ride her with a big grin on my face !!!
