The weather turned to shit for the weekend just as my parts arrived via UPS. A nex Dunlop GT501 rear to match the front. A pair of SunStar sprockets and a top of the line DID x-ring ZVM2 black and gold chain. I also picked up a set of stock VFR exhaust cans that were in pristine shape. Started Friday night and took off the old scratched mufflers. Only to find the packing gaskets were not going to be re-usable. I ended up ordering a new set for the next weekend. While the cans were off, I pulled the wheel and had the tire mounted while I removed the clutch slave and counter sprocket cover. There was 22 years of chain lube and grease that had to be removed and grime on parts of the bike that have not seen the light since creation. The chain was cut, sprockets mounted, wheel with new tire installed, and the mufflers were reinstalled. Then, off went the tank and carbs. I had a few bowl screws that had stripped heads that prevented me from replacing the needle valves. Seems the little filters on the needle seat all came loose and were floating around in the gas T tubes causing all kinds of carburation oddities. I fished out the blasted things and proceeded to put everything back together and clean up. This consumed the entire weekend. But the weather looks crappy for all this week. I might should of let the mufflers off and just waited a week for the gaskets and put the new ones on.... but hey, we might get a bit of the break from the rain. The only downside is the blasted grease and grime under my fingernails. It will wear off just in time for that dirty muffler job next week. Hope your weekend was productive.
