I recently bought a 1985 VF500F to get me back and forth to work and a very helpful question about maintenance was answered on here but I figured before I start running it I might as well take care of a few things, I picked up a Clymer's Manual but I'm not certain of a few things.

I know this sounds completely, completely novice but does Anyone know what type of engine oil i should be putting in and whether I'm going to need to go to a specialty shop for this or what my local Canadian Tire carry the Oil and Filters for this?

anything else I should do for a tune up at this time? Air Filter, Coolants etc?

    Thanks

on the oil if you do a search of the forums you will find a TON of oil threads proclaiming what oil is the best.. Personally I use dinosaur oil , from the bike stealership... YMMV.. don't use any oil with additives such as non slip.... it may do permanent damage to your bike... change you air filter and if your coolant looks rusty ...flush your system.. also with the vf500 you may want to look into doing the oil mod on it to stretch its life out. (this mod helps with top end oiling for you cams) other than chaanging al your fluids . pretty basic maintenance should keep her running
