Yesterday was my first time in a small plane. A friend picked me up and we flew to a fly in at a private airstrip owned by some wealthy people. For anyone local (Illinois), the trip started in Poplar Grove with a landing at Schaumburg, then Lake in the Hills, the fly in in South Barrington, and a final landing in Poplar Grove to return the plane.

Here we are on approach at the private airstrip.

The owners had a couple of hangars.

A very nice older couple flew in with this.

Everyone circled around and did a low flyby as they left.

We took off and flew up to the Chain-O-Lakes in Lake County.

And then headed back to the airport.

What a neat day! I rode the VFR to and from the airport, which made it even better...

Be careful! Flying light planes can be as adictive as riding bikes ;)

Cessna 172's are such cool planes. I've got a bunch of hours in them and they are just a joy to fly. Stable, easy, responsive, everything a light plane should be.

I've heard Cessnas are one of the safest planes to fly because they can just barely kill you.

    Cheers!
