Hi there everyone, I was wondering if I should just walk away from this bike. It is a 98 with unknown miles, painted flat black. I think it looks pretty good with the black. It has a salvage title and a cbrf4? front end. Price is 3000 out the door. Should I just walk because of the lack of mileage?

    Thanks for your input!

The forks are a plus, but with the unknowm mileage, its just me but I would walk. I'm sure you could find a decent 5th gen in better shape for $3500.

If it was me I would go with the more stock bike, especialy if you are new to VFRs. The f4i front suspension is an upgrade but you have to be carefull with bikes that have such mods because you dont have any idea if whoever did them has a clue of what they are doing. Also just because the f4i forks are on the bike already does not mean you will have better handling...They have to be corectly sprung and valved to your weight just like the stock or there is no real benifit, infact because the f4i tubes are shorter and they could be underspung for your weight possibly dropping the front end more they could make the bike even less stable. The stock setup on 5th gen vfrs is quite good if you weigh between 150lbs-180lbs depending on how you ride your bike. Also to do this mod you have to change the entire braking system making it even more suseptible to error(brakes are not the area to be guessing about). Unless you could talk to the previous owner and got a good feeling he knew what he was doing when he replaced the front end I would definately steer clear.

Thats what I have been thinking. Don't know how thrashed the bike was and it could have a million miles. Not sure if the bike needs remapping after pipe and not sure if it has aftermarket filter. Running lean is no good.

Even from the pics, the red one looks in better shape. I saw the black one and it looked like it was stored outside.

The stealer was pushing to get me to buy, as usual, but the price is too high. Think I will be try for the red one instead. Stock is better and fairing cannot be too much of a pain to replace. Already found replacements and could even get one of those full kits on Ebay and it might still be cheaper than the black one.

Just have to read up on proper way to adjust the stock shocks...

if you're not in a hurry, you might get a better deal thru craigslist or cycletrader.com

I would go look at the bike first. You cant tell from the pics if anything else is bent - forks, fairing stay - whatever. If you are not mechanically inclined I would pass. --- Still its winter in Ohio, and there plenty of time to hunt for the right bike.
I would go craigslist over ebay any day, and only buy a bike after up close inspection. Keep in mind - a dealer is in business to make money, a private guy mostly wants a fair deal.

Very true mellow dude. I have been riding, no ice on the roads any more. Stopping by the other one tomorrow. Not in a hurry to buy, I just know they tend to be cheaper in the off season. I will check the others to see what they have to offer.
