I'm trying to figure out what I need to get my 98 VFR back running.

Presently, when I try to start it, the start turns over just fine, but when I first turn the key on, I don't hear the fuel pump come one and the bike won't start. Checked fuses and they look fine.

I pulled the tank and I appear to have voltage on both connectors that connect to the fuel pump (not sure what they each do).

Is there anything else I need to check before I order a new pump?

Is there any way to check to see if the current pump works (for instance, can I apply power to it directly)?

    Thanks!

There are two "main" 30 amp fuses. One is connected to the starter relay and the other is in a white housing. The one in the white housing will keep the fuel pump from running but still crank. The run switch being off will also keep, the pump from running but I don't remember if it'll crank.

There's instructions in the shop manual for doing this:
"Disconnect the fuel cut relay connector (right side on rear subframe, vertical black box). Jump the brown and black/white wire terminals of the wire harness side using a jumper wire.
Disconnect the fuel return tube at the fuel tank, plug the fuel tank inlet joint.
Turn the ignition switch on for 10 seconds and measure the fuel flow. Should be 150cc in 10 seconds. "

To check for power to the pump:
"Open and support the fuel tank.
Disconnect the fuel pump 2P (brown) connector from the fuel pump. Turn the ignition on and measure the voltage between the terminals (brown + / green -).
There should be battery voltage for a few seconds."
If no power check the Main fuel 30A fuse, sub fuse 10A, 20A. engine stop switch, fuel cut relay, engine stop relay, bank angle sensor, ECM."
