'97 Starter Motor Woes

    When I engage the starter, sometimes it engages and sometimes it just "whirrs". Is the starter shot? Gears stripped? HELP!

    clutch

    It does sound like a starter clutch, you need to inspect it. It is a very simple mechanism.....really.
