I am doing a project bike that has been sitting for 7 years.
Does not run yet (wiring harness needed etc.)

I noticed with shifting while off that I only have 1 down and maybe 3 up...Where are my other two gears? The previous owner had mentioned a gearing "mod" so it had 1-3 something or another.

Any ideas what might have been done and what I need to do to get all 6 back?

sounds like there is something missing in the tranny or a bent/destroyed shift fork.

    Shift drum

Is neutral still located between first and second?Sounds silly but if the cam end of the shift drum broke the locating pin it could cause this and neutral would no longer be present.

Awe. also noted in above post, trick here is you need to move the internal gears within the tranny when moving up through the gears. I haven't to my best recollection been able to get past 4th if the engine wasn't running something about the load being from the other side of the shift fork tumblers, that and the gears need to mesh up too. Yes you might be able to get it into 5th-6th with some one rotating the rear wheel, taking it you have it up on the center stand. if it where I, I wouldn't worry just yet, that's a pretty normal situation.

    Thanks RVFR
I think that may be my exact situation:

Neutral Does select - is between 1st and 2nd.
Goes down 1 and up 2 without effort...up one more with a slight bit effort.

Have not tried rotating the rear wheel with it..

Thanks guys for the all the help. No worries until I get her running.

(There was an animal nest in the V when I got it. Critter had used some of the wiring for nest insulation. Putting a new wiring harness in this week...cleaning poop next week..into the speedshop on Wednesday.)
