    hi guys,

i recently bought a 92 vfr at auction that had been slid down the road on its left hand side. apart from fairing and indicator damage it looked pretty straight and only had 36000 kms. after sourcing the broken bits i got it licenced no problem and rode it home and everything was fine, except the steering. as an auctioned bike there was always the chance that the frame or forks would be bent but i don't think they are as it steers straight and everything lines up but it's really stiff to turn and has a very slight weave. could it just be head bearings or am i up for something more expensive? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

    cheers

by the way, although it's showing an american flag next to my name, i'm an aussie from manjimup in western australia

When the steering bearings are a bit tight, a bike will weave. Since your bike went down, it's possible one of the steering bearings got nackered. I suggest you remove the front end and check, clean, replace, regrease, whatever you find you need to do. You can't ride it with stiff steering.

Most common cause of heavy steering is low tyre pressure, but you already checked that........?

more than likely overtightened, if so, more than likely flat spots on the bearings.
