I am looking to get a new set of tires and have settled on the Pilot road 2.

    Stock tires sizes are:

    Front Tire 120/70-17
    Rear Tire 170/60-17

170 is a bit of a weird size.

    Wondering what anyone suggests..

I am basically doing touring with this bike and no track days ( Wife won't let me...cout...cha!! Cout cha...:)

You can install a 180 on the rear as the rim is wider, yours is a 5.5 inch width, mine is only a 5" width, most VFRs run the 180, even some with the 5"rim install the 180. just because there is no 170 around, that and there's a mind set a 180 looks better. maybe? yea an odd duck. Back in 91 there wasn't a lot of choices as the tire manufactures where just starting to get on board with the super sport wave. 180s today are around so now it's no big deal lots to chose from. If I had the choice I'd put a 180 on the rear if I had the wider rim, fronts are all pretty standard. Pilots roads will do you well, if you feel more comfortable with installing the 170 by all means go that way, but a 180 will serve you as well if not better. Reason I say this as I tried both sizes and tire types galore, but in My case my rim is narrower than yours so the impact on the tire is greater. that said I can actually do just fine with the 170, Pirelli FTW ;) thing is there is not a lot of choices available due to that size and the tire manufactures see no reason to make the high end tires as there are very few bikes that run that size.

    Ok...What about profile?

    55 /60/ or 50?

does it matter much if the front tire is a 70?

    as in 120/70/17

    thanks
