Wanted 90-93 vfr

sorry for being a dummy, how do i find bikes for sale. specifically 90-94

 

Right now, in this used market? Luck for a nice one, a shitte tonne of cash if you find one.

Just cuz that other one wasn't OEM paint, how was it otherwise? What was the asking price?

 

lets be more clear, 90-93 are gen 3 bikes and in no way are gen4 94-97 models. that being said. a low mileage for sed 30 year bike (15.000-30,000 miles) could go for 3000 + dollars give or take. Does that constitute a (shit load of money?) don't know about your bank account or your squirreled away fun funds. You get the picture. You could get one to bring home on a trailor for 500 dollars but your gona put a more than double that into it to make it road worthy, and you would be lucky to get it! There are some people here that will remain nameless that were lucky enough to bring two home on a trailor - WTF? WHYYYYYYY?> I want a RED ONE!!!! this way i got RED/WHITE/BLUE. Can you tell I like these bikes? duh

asking is $3k. 50k miles

 

I would prob buy that bike @ $2500 if it looked like it was decently done (except for the color), and wasn't a disaster under the bodywork.

Paint can always be fixed later, and in one color, won't break the bank.

The thing about Gen 3 is you need to start with something complete and decent if you want Honda plastic.

A NICE Gen 3 can go for close to 5K for a 30 year old bike. Shitte tonne?... I guess not.

But my perspective has been skewed lately, hasn't it?

Too much!! If it was owned by an aviation mechanic that had total records and had upgraded suspension with quality shocks (read Penske, Fox, Works, Race-Tech, Traxxion Dynamics) you get the picture, thats just suspension parts. Other parts pertaining to brake seals, master cylinder re-builds, clutch slaves, brake lines, chain/sprockets, tyres, steering head bearings, regulator rectifier upgrades, possible stator problems/charging problems. I am sure I forgot other stuff, if you wana ride the bike without getting stuck, you need to do these maintenance items, might have forgotten stuff. I have lived with these bikes for close to 30 years, I use them on a daily basis and they don't/won't let me down. Anyway, Happy Hunting.

 

if you just can't find a gen 3, look for the improved version, a gen 4.

 

3rd gen bikes are pretty rare now. I paid $1700 for my 93 back in 2017. I was not looking for this bike but it was local and I fell in love with the style. It was running and rideable. That being said I spent countless hours and money to get the bike where it is today. If you are not mechanically inclined you need to buy a well loved and sorted bike. This will cost you. But what you get is a very unique and desirable vintage motorcycle. My bike has been trouble free for years and always get comments. I also own a 05 sv1000 and 04 ninja 250 ( yes its only a 250 ). I have had many bikes over the years but the vfr is forever. Biggest problem with the 3rd gen is parts availability. Not much aftermarket or OEM left for a 30 year old bike. I was lucky and this bike just kind of fell into my hands. If I were to try and find one today it would be almost impossible. If you have your heart set on a 3rd gen prepare to pay for it.

 

Oh, and I forgot to mention the "charming carburetors" and the maintenance associated with them. Best thing you can do is use Ethanol free petrol on these bikes. I have had the carb rack off more times than I care to count. There is a thermostat housing under there that needs to be inspected and possibly serviced (once mine was broken in the open position) I changed the fuel rails with some after market aluminum ones from an Ebay seller. Worked out great with the new viton packings, no more gas smells.

Like above poster sed, if your not prepared to pick up a repair manual and turn some wrenches, these bikes could be costly to own if not impossible.

 

Been there done that. Not the easiest carbs to do. Makes me love the EFI on the sv1000
