I'm looking for some information about the bolts on the sides of the seat on my '87 VFR700. When I got the bike, one was missing and the other is a flanged hex bolt with threads inside the hex hole.

Are these the stock bolts for the seat?
    Where can I get replacements?

The on-line parts catalogs show what looks to be the correct bolt, but they come with the seat and don't appear to be available separately. I've also got a sea cowl that I haven't put on yet. Those inner threaded hex bolts would be great to attach the seat cowl to and I'm afraid the cowl will crack if the threaded bolts aren't in there as a backing. Any help would be appreciated.

That is exactly what the bolts are for, the seat cowl.. I will look to see if I have extra, I have an extra seat, but not sure if the bolts are in it. This would be the best place to find them

Okay, didn't find any in my quick look through my bolt stash. I will keep you in mind next time I get a chance to rummage through my other garage(out of town) where most of my other crap is. Or...you could just send me that seat cowl and save yourself the trouble of looking for those bolts, beside, you dont want to crack it.

yea welcome to one of the biggest PITA parts to get for this bike. hell, Honda doesnt even show these as separate parts in the factory microfiche...the seat and these 2 bolts are all one assembly. you may and may not be able to find these bolts on their own...i wish i had a part number to give you, but who knows, with enough searching, you may find what youre looking for. (i guess worst case scenario, you could buy the solo seat racing tail section from Cobalt Racing and negate the need for the cowl bolts altogether)

For now, I'm playing around with combination's of hex bolts, spacers, flanges and washers to come up with something that won't damage the seat or put too much stress on the cowl.

When I get some time, I'll spin up a more permanent solution on my lathe. Sounds like there may be some demand for these parts if I can come up with something that works.
