I'm plastic welding in order to repair some of the body panels on my 87. The 2 front side fairings are made out of ABS, I've already established that. Battery cover(s), rear tail section and seat cowl are an off-white color. Anyone know what material it's made out of? I thought it was PVC?

    Thanks!

ALMOST all the stuff u mentioned is ABS, but the front fender and seat cowl are something else and will react most unfavorably to the application of any heat.

I'm going to try the acetone/abs slurry method on my nearly-shattered left lower. We'll see how that works. Also planning on going to TAP plastics here in the bay area to see what they say. I'm sure they get a LOT of people coming in with fairing repair questions...

i've had great luck using a 40 watt large-tip soldering iron to melt/fuse pieces together, working from the inside, of course, but the odor is terrible!!

Sand the joining area down to bare black plastic first.
