Hello I have an 86 vfr750 fg with a nice Motad 4:1 exhaust. Problem is the pipe makes the bike sound crap with a tinny stainless exhaust note. My cunning plan is to get another Motad end can (which has a welded link pipe 2:1) as mine is too good to play with and I might need a quiet pipe for a track day .Cut the end off and a couple of inches as it is rather long ,scoop out all the tubes and baffle plates, fit a 2inch length of perforated stainless tube wraped with exhaust packing and weld it back up (got a mate who's a wiz with stainless). Do you think 2inch (50mm) perforated tube is too big /too loud ? Only doing this as the link pipe is about 63mm and to adapt it to fit a 50mm pipe so any normal can could fit will not look good. I have got a Kerker end can which has a 50mm entry but don't know any one who could make a 2:1 link pipe. Unless any one in England has a performance pipe for sale or swap or know someone in the south who makes pipes ,I'll let you know how I get on with a few photos.
Seems like alot of agro for an undertermined change in audio presence; the sound of the bike is also influenced by gear whine and intake gasps. Dunno about your can, but the worst, raspyist, tinneyist can IMO is Cobra F1, lighter than stock but still junk. I like Kerker setup for a good sound without being too loud or raucous like Yoshi.
Hi I know it will be a bit of agro but second hand systems for an 86 are rather rare in the UK. I have seen some Kerker systems on ebay in the States but with the cost of shipping /tax ect it would cost me more than I paid for the bike. I'm olny wanting to mod another Motad end can ,as the rest of the system is in great condition.
