I am replacing the fuel pump (fuel cut off) relay in the 86 VFR 700 and the relay I have as a replacement is from an 87. 86 uses 3 wires - black, black/blue and yellow/green. 87 uses 3 wires black, black/blue and red/blue. Can't figure which of the 86 wires connect to which on the 87 relay. Connecting them in same sequence using yellow/green to red/blue results in the fuel pump not firing when engine is cranking. Jumping blue/black to black makes pump fire when ignition switch is on but engine not cranking. Any help here?

Double check that the yel/grn control circuit wire is being energized.

If not, check the fuse (if applicable) and the control circuit wiring.

If so, double check that you have power through the relay's black - blue/blk load circuit (with power applied to the control circuit of course).

Relay is trouble-prone and superfluous, unneeded, useless baggage.
