This bike is about an hour away for me. What do you guys think about this bike? I dont know a whole lot about early VFRs, but 400 bucks you just cant go wrong right? I am perfectly capable of getting the bike on the road again so I'm not worried about the condition, just looking for something to ride RIGHT NOW. While I hunt down the perfect 6th gen or Superhawk.

I agree with sunofwolf, It will probably take a lot to get on the road. On the other hand it would
make a good parts bike or if someone had the time to work on it, it might not be to bad. I would say
keep hunting. That is also an 85, if it was an 86 I would grab it.

Well I'm having problems finding a "85 vfr700" or vf700f or whatever it could be. I do have the time to work on it, And I do enjoy projects like this. I would assume that most issues are from it sitting. But the paint and tires look fairly good which makes me think its garaged and was looked after. IDK I guess thats just how I perceive it.

What about the four carburetor re-build kits your gona need? What aboot the tyres, chain, sprockets, battery, R/R? It adds up is all I am saying. Hows the gas tank? If there is rust in there, your in for a party, then your gona need a new pet-cock. It does'nt stop, but if your into it, go for it. The thing that would kill it for me is that condition of the inside of the tank. Over and Oot, good luck

Odds are that bike is pretty far away from riding RIGHT NOW. The chocolatey cams could have melted, you don't know the other problems the bike could have that the owner is not disclosing.
If you want a project that takes a few weeks or months, go ahead. But if you want a rider right now odds are this ain't your bike.

Okay so I exaggerated "right now". I was thinking the same thing ridervfr. Rusted tank is probably a deal breaker. But Sense I'm new to this forum, I will say that I did build 2 motorcycles from the ground up. the first one couldn't even be described as a basket case. The entire bike was delivered in the back of a medium sedan. The second bike got a completely custom one off frame built by hand and by me. Not to gloat or anything. Just saying that this project is very minor in my eyes.

If that tank is nasty, its gona shut you down quick, its just as simple as that. To clean it oot sucks oot loud. And when and if you get the tank ok, it still may suck. My two cents, you got a 47 mm socket? Just a question. :mech:
