hi chaps. gonna be back at my 86 750 viffer soon (God willing), and its time i pulled the motor. luckily i have a spare. Ive taken a 77 cb750 apart before, lthought gears were good. anyone here pulled the trans out? my 2nd is un usable - prob from the prev owner crashing it or something, i paid so little - thought id ask for any q's - if my donor is fine, i could just inspect and swap out the whole unit, or should/could i just replace 2nd?

iirc another gear also shows similar signs of slipping.. 4th or 5th.. ive been shifting 1-3rd since i put the thing together - otherwise runs like a champ. front brake lever is stiff compared to prev 84 750 vf - is this a cylinder hone/seal replacement?

You should replace the shafts and gears as a complete set, it is always a concern when doing transmission repairs where only the damaged gears are replaced that the new gears will cause excessive whine as the are worn differently.

... and wear down faster i take it. iirc the cb750 i did had the gears sitting on shafts and engaging onto the 2ndary shaft of gears. are the gear sprockets matched or do they swap around? ie could I swap the 2nd partner gears as a work around or will that not work?

either way itll be easier to toss in the whole donor gear set as a unit though.

the donor is the same motor, possibly a 700, did they have the same gear ratios? Anyone with some pics of the gears / disssembley?

I bought a workshop manual but heaven knows where its laying around!
