Hello Everyone, My name is phil I just bought a 1986 VF1000R with only 1869 on the speedometer. The bike looks and runs like new. I need to buy some new tires for it, the dunlop k500 look new but I should change them out. I look forward to talking to the group.

Congrats on this "alleged" bike purchase but we need proof...PICS PLEASE!

I also assume you meant Odometer and not Speedometer.

    Regards,
    Rollin

Bridgestone BT45's. Those Dunlops are the original tires sounds like. Even if they're not dry rotted i'd change them out.

What a great bike choice! It's an ultra rare machine in great condition with low miles. What are the details? How did you come across it? I found mine a year or two ago with only 3300 miles on it after 6 years of looking, so I'm curious to know how you came upon it. I didn't see anything listed on eBay recently. Congratulations and welcome.

Pics look great, it really does look mint and original other than grips/bar ends. Those gold bar ends are a nice touch to match the upper triple.

I just checked out your photo gallery. The bike looks great. I'd still love to hear how you were able to acquire such a gem.

    I got lucky

It's funny how lucky I was to get this bike. I just sold my 1987 GSXR 750 for great price, and just for giggles I typed in the search engine 86 VF1000R and under craigs list wisconson a ad came up for this bike with only 1900 miles. I asked if the bike was still for sale and my luck it was. I sent the money asap how ever the garage was under 8 ft of snow, so I had to wait a few months, well after almost 6 mo the owner took off $300 off the selling price for taking so long to get the bike ready and sent to motorcycle to california. After new battery, oil, plugs, coolant and gas the bike started right up and runs great.

By any chance at all, was the bike in Prairie du Chien? Was the seller's name Terry Meyer?
