I noticed that on my 86', the handle bars will turn further to the left than to to right. So much farther that I have a small dent on the tank from the horn button making contact.
Once I took a closer look I could see that one of the aluminum square block steering stoppers is broken off. I'm not sure if this is a huge deal but i am worried about slow speed steering and having my thumb get squished or even worse a tank slapper that could brake my thumb.

Let me know if you guys have a way to fix this or any suggestions.

    thanks

THATS the sign of a BIG crash, and i'd pull the entire steering head apart ASAP for full inspection of tripple-tree straightness and bearing/race condition. Forks have been either bent or replaced.

Close inspection of front wheel and bearings would also be a good idea too since whatever the bike hit with enough force to break the steering stop could have caused lots of damage.
