Hi guys, like the title says I'm wondering whether a 1986 VFR700 gear driven cam motor will bolt into a 1984 VF700F chassis. I realize this is not the ideal way to go and I would be better with the 86 aluminum chassis, but I am interested in doing this project on a budget and this is what I've got available to me: a decent 1984 chassis with all the body work/seat/tank etc. and I have access to a 1986 700 VFR motor/carbs/electrical/airbox/headers with only 9000 miles that runs very well.

Is the 86 engine is a bolt in to the 84? Has anybody out there done this swap that can offer any advice? Thanks in advance.

    Kris

Nope, not a bolt-in. In fact, it would take quite a bit of work to make it fit. That said, nothing is impossible, if you can fabricate and machine parts you should be able to make it work. I think the hardest part would be trying to get the chain in the correct spot.
