'85 VF700F Fuel Pump question...

I have a '85 VF700F that I am rebuilding. The bike is tore down now so I can replace all fluids, bleed all lines, re-build/clean carbs, and the tank is down getting dipped and powder coated. When all is done, I will start to put things back together.

What I fould is that when I turn the key on, and switch the run switch to "Run" the fuel pump only blurbs for a split second... Shouldn't it come on and run until it get's up to pressure???

I hope that the fuel pump isn't bad, or the fuel relay/cutoff module isn't bad!!!

I only took the fuel pump panel/rectifier panel off to get to the filter and replace it. I thought I'd try and see if it ran by turning the key on and it only turned on for a split second. I DO have all the wires hooked up, so for all practical purposes, it should run, I think...

Ideas?

If it is a mitsubishi pump, this is the good action :
when you turn key on you have to hear just a little noise coming from the pump. It means that pump is ready (and the relay is ok). Then, when you push on start button, the pump begins to work (you hear or feel a little vibration coming from pump). When pump has sent enough gasoline to carbs, it stops till the moment when carbs are again empty and pump begins to aspire again gasoline and so on. If pump begins to work but has not enough power to aspire gasoline and blocks itself, try to remove (there is a little screw) the black cap of the pump : you will find a little bridge with electric contacts, try to smoothly brush these contacts and install again the black cap. Try again to start the engine. Be careful : if you remove the black cap turn the key off ! And be sure that the fuel tube coming from tank is connected to the inlet of the pump. The outlet must be connected to the tube that goes to the carbs. Also check if the fuel filter (is there one ?) is well mounted (the arrow on its body towards the inlet tube of the pump).
